Top 4 Northeast Road Trips

There is something whimsical about rolling down the windows, blasting music, and taking in the gorgeous scenery while taking a road-trip to a new destination each time. As you drive along the open road, the wind in your hair and belting out of songs, you are destined to find awesome places along the way, so always make sure to leave yourself time for this unexpected but well worth it stops.

When you are planning for your epic road trips be sure to ask yourself the following questions:

1) Am I going solo?
2) How long will I be gone for?
3) Will I be camping, glamping or staying in a hotel?

Here are the top 5 things that accompany me on every road trip:

1) Camera- with battery, charger and extra memory card readers
2) Journal & Favorite Ball Point Pen- I don't just write in the morning or at night, sometimes I pull off the open road and just write in the moment.
3) Sunglasses- Much needed during the Spring & Summer to protect my eyes.
4) Map- There is something unique about an old school map, to show you the areas before they were built on.
5) Reusable water bottle- Keep it filled at all times and make sure to stay hydrated.

Now, that my basics are out of the way here are some trips I would highly recommend. If you have others, leave them in the comments!

New York State Road Trip

The architecture, tradition, art that is showcased through the Lower and Mid Hudson region of New York is one to see. From breathtaking views, to local food, and history behind it, this trip is one you want to make sure you have time for. From Sunrises to Sunsets, there is something for everyone to see and experience.
Best Time of Year: Late Summer/Early Fall.
Places to Visit: Tarrytown, Storm King Art Center in New Windsor, Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse

The Berkshires

Less of an actual road trip, The Berkshires is the perfect place for mini drives each day to explore the surrounding towns in Western Massachusetts. If you love some good old-fashioned New England Charm than this is the place for you to visit. Filled with funky bookshops, quaint B&B's and Inns, gourmet restaurants, and beautiful parks you can spend hours just exploring one town after the other. 3-4 days is a great amount of time, however I am sure like me you will find yourself wanting to plan another drive through!
Best Time of the Year: Fall. Just in time for Fall Foliage.
Places to Visit: 4 Towns to Visit on my last trip. When you are in Lenox, check out Haven Cafe for Brunch, however be prepared to wait on line!

                                                        Boston to Acadia National Park

The road trip direct, is about six hours, however lets be real, you will need a week to see everything in between, and to dine on some of the best lobster along the way. Beautiful beaches, charming towns, farm to table seafood meals and the best of views are something to thoroughly enjoy and not rush through. Take your time and really visit the places you find along the way. If you are into witches than I would recommend stopping in Salem and doing some sightseeing and learning. After that, head to Portsmouth for some shopping but more importantly, find one of the many amazing craft breweries in and around the city. You have crossed the border into Maine, which is full of amazing beach towns, like Kennebunkport, Ogunquit, and Old Orchard Beach. Don't miss the L.L. Bean flagship store in Freeport either. Grab dinner and drinks in Portland, a huge food scene with amazing bites. Finish the trip in Acadia National Park and stay put for a few days of relaxation and exploration!
Best Time of the Year: April thru September
Places to Visit: Salem, Portsmouth, Kennebunkport, Portland

Finger Lakes Region

When looking at a map of Central New York you might notice a peculiar set of long, narrow-bodied waterways that run perpendicular to Lake Ontario. This group of 11 slender lakes, is where the name Finger Lakes comes from. If you are not 21 this trip may need to wait, because beside the beautiful parks, are the wonderful wineries in the region, one of the main attractions. With over 100 wineries in the area with countryside vineyards, elaborate cellars and quaint tasting rooms, everyone's palate is sure to be satisfied. For the none wine lovers, the history and culture is beyond in the area. You can tour Harriet Tubman's home, visit the Corning Museum of Glass, and check out the Women's Rights National Historic Park in Seneca Falls.
Best Time of the Year: April thru October
Places to Visit: Watkins Glen State Park, Seneca Falls, Auburn, the wineries.

What is one road trip you want to take?
