Pirate Republic Brewing Company, the only craft beer of the Bahamas

Breweries are a familiar site in the United States, especially in my home state of New Jersey and the surrounding states; so imagine my surprise when our cruise docked in Nassau, Bahamas and we found brewery a few steps from the cruise terminal. Pirate Republic Brewing Company, home of the only craft beer in the Bahamas is a hot spot for locals and tourists alike.

As my sister, her boyfriend and I walked off the ship and downtown we knew this was the first place we wanted to stop and got lucky they were just opening when we arrived. The first three at the bar, we had the place to ourselves and were able to learn more about the brewery, how it was established and what it was bringing to the island. The bartender, took the time to share the story behind Pirate Republic Brewery which was founded in 2012 and the first craft brewery on the island.

As you walk up to the front a pirate greets you and you are welcomed into the lower level with a bar, the shop, and some long bar tables. Upstairs is the brewery and the restrooms. The wide open space allows for large gatherings of people, many from people visiting off the cruise ships.

Sit at the bar, get an inexpensive flight, and become friends with the staff, what could be better than that. Each beer has a story which I thought was quite intriguing. When I went to take a photo of the flight, one of the bartenders set up an even better photo for me, which I thought was so nice.

My absolute favorite was the Gold & Haze of Piracy! What is cool, is they sell the empty can in the gift shop which would make a great holder on any work desk as a reminder of a cool place visited while traveling.

Take a guess how many calls the bartenders get on any given day or night? This was one of my favorite signs, and a great conversation piece for all guests. When I asked the bartender I was surprised by the number for any given night, especially weekends when I thought it would be higher. If you guessed 3-5 calls a day you would be correct.

If you find yourself on Nassau, I highly recommend checking out Pirate Republic Brewery and you can even take a tour, at cost and receive a flight after. Check out their Facebook, Twitter & Instagram for yourself and be the judge!

What hidden cool gem have you found during your travels?

XoXo,
Tracy

  1. How fun! I had no idea that the Bahamas didn't have a craft beer scene. I will need to add this one to my list. I love brews from around the world.
