Dim Sum You Say?

When Tim HoWan opened just one block away from my office, I knew I had to stop in one day soon to try it from "The Dim Sum Specialists." All the dishes are made to order with the freshest ingredients, so you cannot go wrong in your choices.

Perfect for a solo lunch, dinner date, or meal with friends and family, there is ample seating in the Hell's Kitchen location. The staff, welcomed me with open arms, and explained how the menu worked, recommended their favorites and took the time to explain to me in detail all the answers to my one to many questions as a newbie.

After you check off the items you want to order on the sheet above, they take that and bring you the dishes one by one so you have time to enjoy each freshly cooked dish. I asked if they ever have time constraints and the manager said, you are never rushed out of your table. I however was the opposite as I only had about 45 minutes before I had to be at work. Since I was dining solo many of my dishes came out quicker than some of the parties with 4 or more people. '

Here are the following three dishes I ordered:

Up first was this Steamed Rice Roll with Shrimp and Chinese Chives. Let me be honest, eating them with a chopstick proved to be difficult. However, they were absolutely delicious and next time I will ask for more sauce, on the side.

Next, these Deep Fried Eggplant with Shrimp was my "not sure but want to taste" order. I am so glad I ordered this, because in the end I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. It's hard to get both the shrimp and eggplant together for every bite, but the few I did it was a good combination.
Finally the Steamed Pork Dumplings with Shrimp (Sui Mai) was my favorite dish of the meal. Four small dumplings were the perfect amount for one person, and if I had one less meal I would have ordered a second of this.

When I went at around 11:15pm on a Tuesday I was pleasantly surprised that the place was rather empty. I did learn that from 2pm-Close there is always a wait, so I recommend trying to get there early or be prepared to wait. With that, it is 100% worth the wait and I recommend visiting it the next time you are in NYC. There is also another location in the East Village. You can also add your name to the wait list on Yelp.

Have you ever had Dim Sum?

XoXo,
Tracy
